Haas received critical acclaim for her color woodcuts in both venues. The magazine Art Digest commented, "she grounds her blocks in delicate, lightly printed hues (often allowing the rhythm of the grain to read through), then applies a key-block of jungle-gym lines-lines which move back and forth in space. Her printing technique resembles early Japanese block printing in its lightness, its respect for the nature of the block. In allowing the color-block forms to create space, she shows her understanding of the medium". That same year "Town In the Hills" was one of the featured images included in the Brooklyn Museum exhibition and it also won an Honorable Mention in the S.F. Art Association's 16th Annual Exhibition.

Hildegarde Haas moved to northern California in 1951and continued to work and exhibit widely in the San Francisco Bay area. She exhibited frequently at the S.F. Art Association's annual Drawing and Print exhibitions held at the San Francisco Museum of Art. By 1953 the physical demands of the woodcut became too demanding for her and so abandoned the woodcut and to concentrate on painting.
